[Q]ueen Elizabeth Grammar School in Penrith is celebrating the success of its Year 13 students in gaining places at leading universities around the country.
In the week that marks the closing of university applications for 2018, 90% of QEGS’ students have already received offers from their universities of choice.
Seven students have won places on Oxbridge courses. Elfie Baker and Prahash Babu have been offered places at Oxford and Cambridge respectively to read Medicine. Sophie Bauer has been accepted by Oxford to read English Literature and Kerran Cotterell has won a place at Oxford to read Music. There was further success for Tom Ford and Jake Marshall who have both been offered places at Cambridge to read Engineering and Law respectively. Finally, Andrew Roythorne has won a place at Oxford to read History.
QEGS students have also won places at many Russell Group institutions and other top providers including Durham, York, Birmingham, Bristol, Newcastle, Warwick, Lancaster, Leeds and Bath. The courses chosen reflect the breadth and scope of interest amongst QEGS students, ranging from traditional courses like History, Mathematics and Medicine to more unusual courses like Criminology, Motorsport Engineering and Robotics.
Headteacher, Mr Paul Buckland, said: “QEGS has a reputation for academic excellence. The success of our students in gaining places at many of the UK’s most prestigious institutions is a reflection of their hard work and dedication, and that of school staff. Congratulations to them all.”
