[L]ovable Lake District brand Herdy has been shortlisted for two national family business awards. The company has been nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award and are also shortlisted in the North & Northern Ireland Family Business of the Year Region. The categories are part of the national Family Business of the Year Awards, run by Family Business United.
Now celebrating its tenth year Herdy is run by husband and wife co-founders Diane and Spencer Hannah, the couple picked up a prestigious Cumbria Family Business Award in 2017 when the judges were impressed by the brands commitment to the local community as well as the irresistible designs. Herdy is known for its iconic brand based on the smiling Herdwick sheep and is acclaimed for its ethos of spreading smiles and happiness. The couple’s efforts to support rural communities and upland fell farmers have formed an integral part of the business model as co-founder Diane Hannah explained
“We’ve worked hard to create a brand with real values and to give back to the birthplace of Herdy. Projects have ranged from supporting dry stone walling apprenticeships, through to creating a Gene Bank to help protect the Herdwick breed and we have plans to support young farmers later in the year. It seemed natural to us to encourage and assist our local area, the Lake District is our inspiration and home to us, our shops and staff. Why wouldn’t we want to help protect it?! What’s amazing is how Herdy has become more than just a brand but is almost its own family, with customers and staff really getting behind the ethos of the company, we’ve even been sent photos of a Herdy wedding! Herdy has given us and many others, years of joy and we are delighted and honoured to be shortlisted amongst such great company.”
The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on June 7th at The Mayfair in London.
