[B]arrow’s own Elvis, aka Neil McLaughlin, left not just his audience all shook up when he performed The King’s greatest hits at his latest concert but also, supporters of the Bayb’s Maternity Appeal.
For Neil, who when not on stage works as a shift operations engineer for Centrica, generously dedicated his performance at the Farmers’ Arms, Barrow, to the appeal and asked his packed audience to show any appreciation by donating to a bucket collection.
By the end of the evening, Neil’s show had gone down so well they had donated an amazing £872.60!
Bayb’s appeal co-ordinator Heidi Bowron said: “It was fantastic of Neil to perform for the appeal. We are extremely grateful to him and to everyone who donated after watching him.”
Up until three years ago, Neil used to spend most of his weekends travelling the country to perform Elvis tribute shows. More recently, he has limited his concerts to just one or two a year for charity.
The Bayb’s Maternity Appeal is funding “extras” for the new South Lakes Birthing Centre at Furness General Hospital. These ”extras” fall outside the remit of what the NHS is able to fund but have been added to a shopping list of items, all designed to make the unit second to none in the country.
