[S]tudents at Penrith’s Queen Elizabeth Grammar School have donated over £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.
In the run up to Christmas, students organised a popular non-uniform day, paying £1 each to come to school in their own choice of outfit. Additionally, collections were held at the school’s end of term church services. The total raised was £1,021.55 and QEGS’ student council chose Cancer Research UK to receive the funds.
QEGS holds three such charitable fundraising events each year, with students choosing three different charities through the work of the school’s student council.
Ellie Chappell, year 10, said: “It’s nice to come to school in our own cloths because we have more freedom to choose what we want to wear. I think it’s good that we have raised so much money, because it’s always good to support charity.”
