[A] MARYPORT man has been banned from his home town Co-op store following violent behaviour while holding a baseball bat.
David Wardle, 35, turned angry after being asked to leave the Curzon Street outlet on November 4. Wardle was said to have shouted at – and threatened – store staff before hurling a bag of sugar into the manager’s stomach.
He then took hold of a baseball bat which he had left outside the shop. He continued to “act aggressively” and was described by witnesses to be “both threatening and intense”.
Police were called to the shop, and at Carlisle Crown Court today (FRI) Wardle was sentenced after he admitted an affray charge.
Lucy Wright, defending, told the court he “bitterly regrets what happened”, and spoke of recent progress in his life.
Wardle, of Ennerdale Road, Maryport, was given a 12-month community order comprising a rehabilitation requirement and a course to address anger management.
Wardle was also banned from entering the Curzon Street Co-op.
