[A] new business centre, based at the iconic 221 year old listed Victoria Hall, will be launching this evening. The Vicky, as it will be known, will provide much needed affordable workspace in the centre of Cockermouth.
Co-founder Dave Bealt who has been seeking a suitable property for eighteen months, says of the initiative: “We are very excited to open THE VICKY Business Centre. It offers something a little bit different and a lot less conventional for homeworkers, start-ups and small businesses in and around Cockermouth. Affordable monthly membership means no lengthy tenancy agreements, no bills and a sociable, relaxed as well as supportive working environment.
“Members can grab their laptop, pop in to THE VICKY and plonk down in one of a variety of informal workspaces and meeting areas. There’s fast
fibre broadband, colour printing, personal storage and free coffee forever!”

Fellow member, Penny Watson, cites the woeful broadband at home for backing the project; “Whilst working from home is convenient and free, it can feel isolated, and often difficult to ring-fence space and time. Add on the shockingly slow and temperamental broadband, and THE VICKY makes for a compelling case.”
Gill Bealt, the Centre Manager explains about the setting up of The Vicky; “We signed the lease just before Christmas and have been working night
and day throughout January to get it ready for a February opening. It has been an exhilarating, rewarding experience and we’re now ready to welcome local businesses to The Vicky. It’s a unique, magnificent space that we’re very proud of but don’t just take our word for it, have a FREE trial day on us!”
Sarah Hopkins from Kinbee, will be basing their training company in The Vicky; “We have high hopes THE VICKY. It’s a fab place to work, right in the
centre of town, and it makes for a fine venue to host our training courses too. Exciting times ahead.”
