[O]n Thursday 1st February, West Lakes Academy hosted their 3rd annual Harry Potter Day. The event is run alongside the national event in book shops across the country by the publishing company, Bloomsbury.
This year’s theme was ‘Fantastic Beasts’, which is also the title of the latest JK Rowling’s Wizarding World film series.
On the day, all of our year seven students attended their usual lessons but with a magical twist, much like attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Students practised their Marauder’s Map skills in Geography; mixed up some magical potions in Science and met some fantastic beasts in English. Students had also been sorted into their Hogwarts house teams by ‘the sorting hat’ the day before and were able to earn house points throughout the day.
Also JK Rowling tweeted her congratulations to the Academy for the event.
The evening’s event saw the school’s library decorated like Hogwarts’ Great Hall complete with hanging candles and dragons’ egg nests. Students and their parents played games and heard extracts from the famous J K Rowling novels. One game even involved pupils finding their way out of the Chamber of Secrets! Students were rewarded with a copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in the limited edition coloured cover for their house team for their involvement in the evening.
The whole day was a magical experience for all involved!
