[A] Penrith woman who pleaded guilty earlier this month at Carlisle Magistrates Court to three-charges of harassment has received a suspended prison sentence.
Carol Anne Bardgett, 58, of Wetheriggs Rise, Penrith was charged with harassment of two females and two men, in that she consistently caused distress, fear and anxiety with anti-social behaviour which included threats and verbal abuse, on dates between January 31,2017 and July 6, 2017.
Bardgett also pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage to a wooden garden fence to the value of £2,000 on August 29, 2017, the four offences took place in Penrith.
District Judge Gerald Chalk was told how Bardgett had acted in an “aggressive” manner towards her neighbours, one neighbour told police she suffers from anxiety and depression because of Bardgett`s shouting and her aggressive attitude.
Bardgett told the judge she is “truly sorry” for her actions and will not do it again and that she is hoping to move from the area.
The judge imposed a sentence of 40-days in prison on each of the three-harassment charges, in total 120-days, this will be suspended for one-year, with no-separate penalty on the criminal damage, she will also have to complete 20-days on a rehabilitation programme run by the Probation Service and pay court costs of £85 and a victims surcharge of £115.
A restraining order was imposed for two-years in she will have no-contact with the three neighbours by speaking to them or acknowledging them in any way.
Bardgett was also told a custodial sentence was the only option because her behaviour had been so-bad, if she breached this restraining order a prison sentence could then be imposed.
