Stainton man arrested by armed police

Police have made an arrest in connection with an investigation into an assault that occurred earlier today (13th February) in Carlisle.

A number of officers, some armed, were deployed to an address in Stainton near Penrith as part of enquiries into an assault that occurred inside P B Sports on Wigton Road, Carlisle.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “A 60-year-old man from Stainton has been arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent and possession of an offensive weapon. He has been detained for questioning.

“Police can reassure local residents that there was no perceived threat to them during this arrest.”
