[R]obin Oliver designed commemorative charity cards will be launched in Carlisle on Valentines Day!
In remembrance of the upcoming centenary of ‘the agreement to end fighting during the First World War’ (1914-1918) Robin aims to raise a MINIMUM £1,000 up to Armistice Day; 11 November 2018, through the sale by donation of his art cards, which feature his own designs. Robin has met all of the costs associated with producing the fixed number of his cards, with set donation price for each commemorative issue.
The limited special edition card designs are to be made available, for sale by donation to the public, for collection, from The Carlisle Tourist Information Centre, and retail outlet, which is located upstairs within Carlisle’s Old Town Hall building, Carlisle, Cumbria, CA3 8JE (01228 598596) from today; Wednesday 14th February 2018 and it is expected that the cards being sold in aid of ‘The Carlisle & Stanwix branch of The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal’, will sell out very quickly!
Robin suggests that charity cards are extremely appropriate items when remembering World War One, given the fact that, the social media of the day, was made in writing, via postal services, and campaigns. Messages and words were disseminated to the general population through posters, which all contained the written word. Souvenirs were highly sought after by the men at war, as was contact with, and news from those at home!”
Sending a card or letter to their sweetheart, fiancé, or wife, would have been particularly valued on Valentines Day during the war years. It is astounding to consider that from 1914 to 1918, approximately, One hundred and fourteen million parcels, and at least, two billion letters were managed via the Army’s Postal Services”.
Robin’s own artwork, design, and wording are shown in a choice of Four, ‘blank inside for your own message’, artists card designs. Robin’s work is rarely reproduced by the artist other than for exhibition, or, for his charity work.
Designs include an A5 size version of Robin’s commemorative poster; ‘Fathers of Cumberland say GO!’ This has never been reproduced for sale previously and is to be limited to only 50 cards. The original artwork was displayed within ‘the Border Regiment Chapel’, of Carlisle Cathedral, as part of Robin’s 2014 exhibition; In Remembrance.
The other images include Carlisle Castle, depot to the Border Regiment (1873- 1959).
Robin’s ram’s head with crest background painting which includes; Romans Chapter 8, Verse 36, as its title, the words of which, may be quoted within Remembrance Services.
His fourth card design features one of Robin’s poppy paintings, which was made, framed, and taken by him to the Cenotaph in London in 2014, and displayed there, in Remembrance.
Any of Robin’s commemorative charity cards printed which is not sold by 11 am on the 11th November 2018 will be destroyed. A tally made of any money collected up to that point and any funds raised will be handed directly to his local ‘Carlisle and Stanwix branch of the Royal British Legion by a representative from the tourist Information centre. Or earlier should all of the Cards Sell out before November.
Robin says that he specifically wanted any charitable funds raised to be to the benefit of his local area and specifically to remain with his local branch of The Royal British Legion, which he says works tirelessly in support of local forces families, and in, Remembrance.
Robin has stressed that this is a unique card product because no one other than the charity gains financially from the sale by donation of the cards, and it is rare in any retail setting that 100% of any money raised goes directly to the beneficiary.
Robin would like to thank Blaine Cruddace, of Carlisle City Council, and especially; Laura Thompson, Tourism Information Officer, at the Carlisle Tourist Information Centre, and the staff team who have kindly agreed to accommodate, and retail the artist’s charitable work via Carlisle’s historic Old Town Hall. https://www.discovercarlisle.co.uk
The artist hopes that anyone who is needing to purchase a card to send to a loved one this year, or as a keepsake, that they will choose one of Robin’s commemorative cards and at the same time donate to a local charity, rather than to a commercial greetings card company.
