[M]arket trader applications opened for The Winter Droving 2018 this week showcasing a greener message to market traders.
This year Eden Arts – organisers of the Winter Droving – have teamed up with Lancaster based Crafty Vintage to increase the size of the market, and encourage more businesses to get involved.
The team is also aiming to reduce the amount of waste produced by the festival, after seeing an increase in plastic free and zero-waste initiatives in the area, including a new refill scheme coordinated by Penrith Action for Community Transition (PACT) and Facebook groups such as Plastic Free Cumbria.
Adrian Lochhead, Director at Eden Arts said: “We have a long relationship with groups such as PACT, Penrith & Eden Freegle, and Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAFS) and we would like to bring the discussions we have been having with these groups into our events. This year we are taking significant steps to reduce the amount of single use plastic and non-recyclable waste we produce at all our events, and asking traders to do the same. We are also working together with Penrith on a Plate and Penrith Goes Orange to bring these changes into Penrith’s events across the board and create a joined up approach to what events mean to the town and the impact they have.”
The Winter Droving takes place on Saturday 27th October 2018, and visitors can look out for new initiatives such as a discounts on hot drinks if you have a reusable cup, food being served with compostable plates, and a focus on encouraging visitors and traders to think more ethically about the purchases they are making.
Eden Arts are encouraging more Penrith and Eden based businesses to sign up for a pitch at the market, and offer reduced rates to businesses within the Penrith BID area. Please email [email protected] for more information.
