Railway between Carlisle and Scotland closed

Carlisle Station

Due to the weather, the route between Carlisle and Scotland is closed with no trains, or replacement buses, running.

Alternative rail routes between England and Scotland are also severely disrupted.

A Virgin Trains spokesman said: “We expect this situation to continue until at least lunchtime tomorrow and will let customers know any updates as to when Network Rail expect to reopen the route.

“Customers who wish to postpone their journeys and travel later in the week can do so – tickets for travel to or from Scotland on Wednesday or Thursday can be used up to and including Sunday.

“Alternatively, if customers would prefer to cancel their journey, refunds will be given without any fee being charged.”
