[A] leading firm of solicitors has named CancerCare North Lancashire and South Cumbria its ‘Charity of the Year’ for 2018.
Wright and Lord Solicitors who have offices in Morecambe, Bare and Milnthorpe have chosen to support the charity throughout the year as members of staff have been affected by cancer and some have used CancerCare’s services.
To mark the start of the year, directors Lynne Lord and Stephen Wright and consultant, Kay Murray, presented a cheque for £540 to fundraisers Anna Webster and Helen Hartin from CancerCare.
The team from Wright and Lord chose not to send Christmas cards and decided the £500 they would have spent should go to CancerCare. They also had a ‘Christmas Jumper Day’ which raised £40.
Over the next few months all fundraising activities at Wright and Lord will be focused on CancerCare. Members of staff have said they are keen to get involved in some of the charities events and challenges.
Lynne said: “I have had personal experience of this charity and the wonderful support it provides to those suffering from cancer and their families through a range of services provided by extremely sensitive and caring individuals.”
Stephen said: “This is a remarkable charity full of remarkable people.
“There’s no other service like it and without the financial support of the public, it just couldn’t be what it is today.”
Neil Townsend, chief executive of CancerCare, said: “It is fantastic to have the support of such a highly respected and long-established local business.
“Wright and Lord’s support will enable our team to support even more people of all ages who are facing cancer.
“As Stephen says, there is no other charity like CancerCare as we provide free professional counselling and therapeutic services across North Lancashire and South Cumbria. Lynne and Stephen run a caring business and we run a caring charity – it’s a perfect partnership.
“We are extremely grateful for Wright and Lord’s support and look forward to a productive year with them.”
Anna Webster from CancerCare’s fundraising team, added: “We know that the team at Wright and Lord share in our passion to help local families affected by cancer and we are delighted to have the support of such a well-respected business in our community.
“We can’t wait to work with them over the coming 12 months.”
