[A] MAN has been handed a suspended jail term for controlling behaviour towards his ex-partner.
Ryan Paton and his victim were in an “on-off” relationship during 2016 when his offending occurred on a host of different occasions.
Carlisle Crown Court heard 33-year-old Paton turned violent, “pushing her and strangling her” during a trip to Manchester.
He told the woman she could not go out on a separate occasion, and on another “grabbed her by the hair and banged her head against a wall”.
Learning of her plans to go on holiday without him, Paton then threatened to “kill her” or make a bomb threat to prevent the plane taking off.
Businessman Paton, of Oak Drive, Stainburn, admitted controlling or coercive behaviour during a six-month period.
After hearing personal mitigation, Judge James Adkin suspended a 10-month prison sentence for two years.
Paton must complete 150 hours’ unpaid work, rehabilitation and a “building better relationships” course. He was also banned, indefinitely, from contacting his ex
