A LAKES hotel manager who defrauded his employers to the tune of £9,500 has been spared immediate prison.
Jordan Musgrave, 24, committed six frauds while working at the Cuckoo Brow Inn, Far Sawrey, and one, in December, after he had been dismissed. Carlisle Crown Court heard he used a pre-paid card to fake refunds to himself in escalating amounts to the tune of almost £9,500.
Musgrave also used a company card to pay for a lengthy personal taxi journey and, late on Boxing Day, broke into Ellerthwaite Lodge at Windermere in a bid to carry out a further fraud which was unsuccessful.
When interviewed by police, he said his motivation was that he wasn’t being paid enough by the hotel group which owned both properties, and confessed to having debts.
Musgrave admitted seven fraud charges and one count of burglary. He was said to have been “reckless” and shown “really poor judgement” in committing crimes which were described as “out of character”.
After hearing mitigation, Recorder Julie Clemitson suspended a 12-month prison sentence for 18 months. Musgrave, of Hill Close, Kendal, must also complete 180 hours’ unpaid work and a three-month curfew.
