[A] 35-year-old man has today (Tuesday, March 6) been sentenced to life in prison after murdering a man in Blackburn.
Lee Kenyon, of Hall Street, had admitted killing Jim Murray last year during a hearing at Preston Crown Court in February.
Police were called by the Ambulance Service around 1.30am on October 2 following reports a man had been stabbed on Largs Road, Blackburn.
Officers attended and found Mr Murray, 51, at the scene having suffered a single stab wound to the chest. He was treated by paramedics but sadly died on the way to hospital.
Following investigation, detectives established Mr Murray had earlier visited Largs Road and become involved in a dispute with a homeowner. A man, later identified as Kenyon, was also at the address.
Kenyon left the property and following a brief altercation, stabbed Mr Murray, before making off from the scene.
Kenyon had been wanted by police after a 23-year-old man was stabbed close to the Texaco Garage in Grimshaw Park 24 hours earlier.
The victim suffered stab wounds to his arm and back and was treated at Royal Blackburn Hospital.
Kenyon was arrested on October 3 by police and admitted involvement in both offences.
He was charged with murder, section 18 – wounding with intent and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.
Kenyon was today jailed for life, with a minimum of 22 years, following a sentencing hearing at Preston Crown Court.
He had pleaded guilty to the section 18 wounding and possession of an offensive weapon at the hearing in February.
Det Chief Insp Gareth Willis, of Lancashire Police, said: “Lee Kenyon is an extremely violent and dangerous offender. In a two day period he stabbed a man, leaving him with serious injuries, before going on to murder Mr Murray.
“It is clear to me Kenyon presents a significant risk to the public and we welcome the sentence.
“While today’s outcome will never replace the loss of Mr Murray, we hope it provides some comfort to his family and our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time.”
