[P]enrith A travelled to Cheadle in the Regional Division Two league for the last tournament of the season.
Early wins against Trentham B (7:2) and local rivals, Lancaster based Red Rose (6: 0), set them up for a match with the young Irish Ulster Canoe Club team. Counter attacks and disciplined defending saw them win 5:1. That left the final match against top of the league Welsh Warriors. Penrith scored first, but with 2 minutes to play trailed by a goal. A bold decision to go “five out” saw them draw level and then score in the last few seconds of the game to win the hardest game of the night with the final score 4:3.
Penrith’s final current position in the league is 2nd with other teams having games in hand, but Penrith are guaranteed an excellent 4th place. Considering their form in the late part of the regional league it would have been interesting to see how well they would have placed had that form been present for the whole year.
