[S]cout Leader Michael Smillie of Dalston Scout Group has challenged the young people of his troop to try and go for a week, from 24th to 31st March, without playing electronic games. By ditching controllers, mobile phones and computers, Michael hopes that the youngsters will feel much better in themselves at the end of the week, and will realise the importance of controlling their time spent playing these types of games.
Cumbria Scouts county commissioner Eddie Ward thinks this is a great idea, and suggested that all young people in the county should be invited to take the challenge, so Mike has created an open-access Facebook event for anyone to sign up for “No Gaming Week”.
Any young (or not-so-young) gamers who would like to take the challenge can sign up by searching Facebook for the event “No Gaming Week”.
Scouting is a great way for young people to meet new friends, take part in some amazing activities and challenges, and learn essential skills for life. Adults can take part in the movement as leaders, assistants, or supporters for activities or specialist skills. Free training and support is given to all adults that join Scouting, and this is often recognised by potential employers.
