[I]f you’ve felt draughts in your house during the recent cold weather, you might be eligible for free draught-proofing under a scheme run by a local charity.
Door and window seals, letterbox covers and keyhole brushes are among the products you can get at no cost, along with draught excluders for chimneys. There are also free LED bulbs on offer to save even more money on your energy bills.
The Penrith-based charity Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS) will visit your home and find where draughts are coming from. They’ll then send a professional installer to fit the draught-proofing products you need. They can also check whether you can cut your energy bills by changing to a different tariff.
The scheme is open to residents in Carlisle and Eden districts who are over 60 and on a low income, under 60 and on a means-tested benefit, or if anyone in your household has a disability or long-term health issue.
The charity can help another 20 or so homes before the scheme ends in April, thanks to funding from the Ebico Trust.
