[A] MOTHER has been sentenced by a judge for a £2,500 benefit fraud.
Stacey Marie Milligan, 29, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today (WED). She admitted two charges of dishonestly failing to promptly notify both the Department for Work and Pensions, and Allerdale Borough Council, of a change in her circumstances.
Milligan received income support and housing benefit as a single parent having lodged an initially legitimate claim. But between December, 2015, and January last year, she failed to disclose cleaning work and receipt of wages which affected her entitlements.
The court heard Milligan, of Iredale Crescent, Workington, had already paid back around £1,600.
Judge James Adkin imposed a 12-month community order with supervision, and ordered her to complete a rehabilitation activity requirement.
