Dropping a cigarette costs Carlisle woman £335

[A] Carlisle woman should have attended Carlisle magistrates court for an alleged offence of dropping litter today, but failed to appear.

Ms Chantelle Hoggan, 26, of Colville Terrace, Carlisle, discarded a cigarette butt at Robert Ferguson Primary School, on East Dale Street on October 5 last year and left it there, a place to which section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 applied.

She was found guilty by magistrates in her absence, and fined £220 with court costs of £85 and a victims surcharge £30.
