Man who denies indecently assaulting boy in Lake District to stand trial

Carlisle Crown Court

[A] MAN who denies committing alleged sex offences against a boy in the Lake District will go on trial later this year.

Richard William Philpotts, 63, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court over a video link earlier today (FRI).

Philpotts pleaded not guilty to two charges alleging indecent assaults of a boy, and further denied a third charge alleging a serious sexual offence.

The charges cover a period spanning around two years, between late December, 1989, and early 1992.

The complainant named in each charge is said to be a boy who was aged under 16 at the time. It is alleged that the offences occurred in the Windermere area.

Philpotts, whose address was given by the court as HMP Bure, Norfolk, was told he will go on trial at the crown court.

It is estimated the hearing, which is due to start on September 10, will last up to seven days.
