[A] TEENAGER who led police on a high-speed chase through a Carlisle housing estate was slammed by a judge for his “reckless, foolish” driving.
Dash-cam footage played at the city’s crown court showed Mark Grayshon speeding away from an officer. That PC reached 55mph in a 20mph Botcherby residential area but even then was “not really keeping up” with Grayshon, a prosecutor said.
The 18-year-old flouted a number of road rules before crashing a Renault Megane he stole from a work colleague into a bridge. He later admitted aggravated vehicle taking, having no insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with his provisional licence.
Grayshon, of Alexander Street, Carlisle, was said to be sorry for his criminal conduct in the early hours of January 27.
Recorder Julian Shaw imposed an 18-month community order comprising rehabilitation, 85 hours’ unpaid work and a thinking skills course. Grayshon was banned from driving for 18 months, and must take an extended test.
“This was an unbelievably reckless, foolish, dangerous thing to do,” said Recorder Shaw. “You have a lot of growing up to do, Mr Grayshon, because behaviour like this is unacceptable.
