[P]olice are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision on the M6 yesterday (March 28th).
Officers were called at 1.55pm to reports of a collision on the southbound carriageway between J37 and J38, involving a HGV and two cars. No-one was believed to have been injured in this collision.
At the same time, a collision occurred on the northbound carriageway, approximately half a mile south of J38. This collision involved a HGV and seven vehicles.
A female passenger in one of these vehicles, aged 69, from Southampton, died at the scene. The male driver of the vehicle, aged 73, also from Southampton, was flown to the Royal Preston Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
Both carriageways were closed while two air ambulances landed. The northbound carriageway remained closed while a collision investigation took place.
