Police appeal after woman raped in Penrith

[A] man has been charged after a woman was allegedly raped in the early hours of Sunday 1st April 2018 in the area of Middlegate Penrith.

Following a police investigation Mark Farrell, 28, from the Penrith area was charged with 3 counts of Rape and Possession of a Class B Drug.

Farrell of Brougham Street, Penrith appeared at Carlisle Magistrates court on 2nd April 2018 where he was remanded in custody to appear at Carlisle Crown Court on 30th April 2018.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “A 23-year-old woman is being supported by specially trained officers.

“This investigation is at an early stage and police seek to identify witnesses and CCTV opportunities from the area.”
