[T]ime to Change Cumbria is offering awards of up to £500 to fund activities to help put an end to mental health stigma and discrimination.
Launched last year as one of the first Time to Change regional hubs in the country, Time to Change Cumbria is a partnership between Cumbria County Council, Carlisle Eden Mind, South Lakeland Mind, Mind in Furness and the Mental Health Provider Forum along with Carlisle City Council, a growing number of workplaces, schools and Community Champions, committed to changing local attitudes and behaviours towards people experiencing mental health problems.
The second round of applications for the awards will open from Monday 16th April until Friday 7th September 2018. To be eligible, applicants must have signed up to become a Time to Change Champion and
- Be 18 or over;
- Live in Cumbria and
- Have lived experience of a mental health problem
An information session is being held on Friday 27th April from 4-6pm at Costa Coffee, Court Square near Carlisle Train Station. Anyone interested in becoming a Time to Change Champion and applying to the fund is welcome to come along to find out more.
Time to Change Cumbria Champions are part of a nationwide social movement of people who use their own experience of mental health problems to challenge mental health stigma and discrimination. They do this in a number of ways including running activities and events where they speak about their own experience to break down barriers and encourage mutual understanding and respect.
Sara, a member of the Carlisle Champions Campaign Group, says: “Time to Change has given me a platform, a voice and a confidence to stand up and speak openly about my personal experiences.
Sharing my story has inspired other people close to me and in my social networks. I feel I am making a difference in my everyday life by talking more openly about mental health to my friends and family and in turn, it is now ingrained in our everyday conversations.”
