[C]ockermouth Mountain Rescue Team team was called at 2.37pm (Friday 13 April) to assist a 55-year-old woman who had fallen approx. 20-30ft from the path alongside Scale Beck above Scale Force waterfall in Buttermere.
The woman suffered head and shoulder injuries.
A spokesman for Cockermouth MRT said: “The team were assisted by the doctor and paramedic from Great North Air Ambulance Service, Helimed 58, who ascended to the casualty’s location after landing down in the valley.
“Due to the technical nature of the ground for a stretcher carry evacuation to the air ambulance, a coastguard rescue helicopter was requested by the team leader, to winch the casualty from the scene.
“Unfortunately, the weather deteriorated with low cloud and fog coming in, which prevented the coastguard helicopter from being able to assist.
“Also, due to the poor weather the air ambulance had to take off from the valley and return to base when they got a break in the cloud, leaving the team with a stretcher carry back to Buttermere village.
“The casualty was transferred from there to Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle by road ambulance.
“Many thanks as always to the crews of both helicopters for their help and efforts to assist. Sometimes, the Cumbrian weather just means its Hobsons choice and Shanks’ Pony!”
Approx 20 CMRT team members responded to the incident.
