[A] MAN who assaulted and threatened his then partner at her mother’s Carlisle home has been sentenced by a judge.
Alexander James Keane, 37, was punished at the city’s crown court today (MON) after admitting a common assault on Karen Johnston. This took place in the Harraby area on August 28.
Miss Johnston was said to have left her own home after an incident with partner Keane. She went to her mother’s home nearby and was upset on the step when the door was opened. As Keane attended, Miss Johnston tried to call police.
But prosecutor Colette Renton said: “Mr Keane ripped the phone out of her hand. He began to threaten Miss Johnston and make threats to her personal safety, causing her fear.”
Keane had spent more than 12 weeks in custody on remand following an offence which put him in breach of a previous court sentence. His barrister, Kim Whittlestone said Keane, of no fixed address, was not now in a relationship with Miss Johnston and “doesn’t want contact with her”.
Judge Peter Hughes QC imposed a two-year community order. Keane must attend a “building better relationships” course and complete rehabilitation.
