[B]oth Penrith and Cammell Laird went into this game boasting unbeaten league records.
Penrith started brightly enough and had a couple of early efforts from distance from Livvy Johnston.
Penrith made the breakthrough on 14 mins when Kim McCormick’s long free kick into the penalty area was swept past the Laird keeper by Nat Broad.
Cammall Laird quickly responded and their pressure was rewarded when a poorly timed challenge by Penrith’s Charlotte Smith resulted in the award of a penalty. This was dispatched to make it 1-1 in the 26th minute.
Cammell Laird took charge of the game and Penrith weathered considerable pressure for the remainder of the 1st half.

Into the 2nd half Penrith introduced Hannah Coulthard and they were able to regain some hold to the midfield zone of the pitch.
The 2nd half continued to be a fiercely fought midfield battle with clear chances few and far between. Cammell Laird had the best of the chances and Penrith had keeper Michelle Jones to thank for a couple of very brave saves at the feet of the Laird strikers.
In the end both teams had to settle for a draw which sees them maintain their unbeaten league records. However it is Laird who maintain a slight advantage in the race for the league title.
