[A] WORKINGTON heroin addict who was pressured by higher ranking criminals to deal the class A drug has been jailed.
Garry George Eglitis, 33, was caught out as police raised his home in the town on July 4 last year.
Officers who executed a warrant found almost 15g of heroin which had been cut with caffeine and paracetamol. This, a police drugs expert concluded, was capable of producing 80 street level deals worth around £800.
All three substances were found on sets of electronic weighing scales at the address, and a roll of tin foil, debtors’ list and £600 cash were also recovered.
Eglitis, of Fountains Avenue, Workington, pleaded guilty to possession of heroin with intent to supply, and the simple possession of class B cannabis.
His barrister, Brendan Burke, told Judge Peter Hughes QC that heroin addict Eglitis had been pressured by others from outside Cumbria to run a “minor branch office” in the town.
He was jailed for three years by Judge Hughes, who added 28 days’ imprisonment – to be served consecutively – for failing to attend an earlier sentencing hearing.
