[T]he George & Dragon has been named as the best pub in the county at the ‘2018 National Pub & Bar Awards’.
The former 18th century coaching inn near Penrith has been unveiled as the ‘County Winner’ for Cumbria, as part of Pub and Bar magazine’s annual quest to find the best pub or bar in the UK.
That means it’s now also in the running for the accolades of both Regional Pub and the much-coveted National Pub of the Year, which will be revealed at a red carpet celebration at BAFTA in central London on Wednesday 23 May 2018.
It’s already a big year for The George & Dragon, which will mark ten years since its restoration as a dining pub this summer. Over the past decade, the inn has been steadily building its reputation as a foodie hotspot, with fresh, local produce from the Lowther Family estate, including the nearby Askham Hall.
The latest news also comes hot on the heels of The George & Dragon being shortlisted for the ‘Taste’ category in the Cumbria Tourism Awards 2018; the winner will be revealed at Cartmel Racecourse in June.
General Manager of The George and Dragon, Chris Curry, says, “Winning a National Pub & Bar award is a great achievement, particularly in our 10th anniversary year. It is a real tribute to all our team, who work hard day-in, day-out, to provide the very best customer experience. We’re looking forward to awards nights and meeting all the other contenders from around the country at the iconic BAFTA theatre next month.”
