[C]arlisle Police and Carlisle Shopwatch carried out a joint operation earlier this week to crack down on shoplifting.
Seven shoplifters were detained during Monday’s operation in the city centre, and goods recovered and returned to stores.
Sergeant Chris Blain said: “Our PCs and PCSOs work on a daily basis with retail security staff and CCTV operators, to help prevent and detect shoplifting and fraud. These operations highlight the work that we do and the well-establish radio link which is continually used.
“We will continue to work hard to tackle this form of crime, and operations of this nature will take place in the future.”
A number of the shoplifters were dealt with by restorative justice and others reported for the offence. The differences occurred due to the age of the offender and previous circumstances.
