[A] man has been charged after a 28-year-old man suffered a serious head injury in Carlisle.
At around 11.20pm last night (21 April), Cumbria Police received a report of an assault having occurred earlier in the day in the rear garden of an address in Pennine Way, Carlisle. The assault is alleged to have taken place at around 3pm.
The injured man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Officers attended the Arroyo Arms in Edgehill Road, Harraby, Carlisle and arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
Nicky Maxwell, 28, of Pennine way, Carlisle has been charged with grievous bodily harm.
Maxwell has been remanded in police custody and will appear at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court today (23 April).
Detective Inspector Matt Scott said: “There is a man in hospital with a serious head injury and I would urge anyone with information which could assist our investigation to get in touch as soon as possible.
“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was at the Arroyo Arms yesterday evening and may have heard anyone talking about this incident.”
