Man who denies alleged sex assault on girl in Carlisle to stand trial

Carlisle Crown Court

A MAN who denies an alleged sexual assault of a young girl in Carlisle has been told he will stand trial in front of a jury later this year.

Daniel Ionut Marinescu, 28, faced one charge when he appeared at the city’s crown court earlier today (MON) over a video link from custody.

During a short hearing before Judge James Adkin, Marinescu pleaded not guilty, through an interpreter, to one charge. This charge alleges the assault, by penetration, of a girl aged under 13.

A timetable for the case was set, and Marinescu, of Shaddongate, Carlisle, was told by Judge Adkin that his trial is due to start at the crown court on September 1.

It is estimated the hearing will last around three days.

In the meantime, Marinescu was remanded in custody.
