[A]s the final for Miss Cumbria 2018 heats up to a close on the 28th April Lucy Salter wishes to share her amazing journey so far.
Spotted by a recruiter for Miss Cumbria 2018 while shopping in the Lanes Carlisle, Lucy agreed to take part in the annual event which is a heat for Miss England.
Never been one to compete in an event like this before Lucy spent some time deciding over the weekend she was recruited whether to take part or not. After consideration and looking forward to the new experiences ahead she spoke with Claire Bell Miss Cumbria 2017 who helped Lucy in her decision making process.
Lucys ambition was to become fully involved with her local community and raise awareness of many worthwhile volunteering causes around the city of Carlisle and beyond.
During the run up to the final Lucy has embarked on raising awareness and much needed funds with:
- Eden Valley hospice & Jigsaw – Superhero Race Day at Carlisle Racecourse where Lucy was marshalling and volunteering help runners and children complete the course.
- Breast Cancer awareness – a Bag Pack day which took place at Carlisle’s Marks and Spencer’s
- Amy’s Care – A Fashion Show being held to raise awareness for people suffering from dementia in north Cumbria.
- Marshalling at Carlisle’s Park Run – Lucys passion is running and helping all be involved in local free activities.
- Co-ordinator for the elderly that are in need of transport, helping them get to hospital appointments, shopping, hairdressers and much more.
- Litter pick in Irthington village
- Bag Pack at Sainsburys Carlisle – Raising funds for Variety, Miss Cumbria’s charity of choice
- Held an auction of sporting memorabilia donated by Stephen Armistead MD of Trade Copiers – Monies raised donated to Variety
- Raffle prizes donated from local Cumbrian Businesses being utilised to aid raising funds for Variety Charity
- Coffee Morning at DW Sports and Cake sales at Lucys work Trade copiers have both helped raise further funds for worthwhile causes
Lucy says; “It’s been a pleasure to take part in so many local worthwhile organisations. I want to use my experience with many of them to help them achieve higher volumes of volunteers which support so many walks of life in our local communities. I’ve met some great friends, achieved some personal aspirations and will continue to support the organisations I’ve been involved in.”
The Final round takes place on April 28th and features a 4 scene catwalk fashion show followed by the awards ceremony. The catwalk will showcase the contestants wearing a sportswear outfit, partywear, evening wear and an Eco outfit which is one borrowed, bought from a charity shop or made from recycled materials. Lucy’s Eco outfit will be made from rubbish that gets washed into the sea and poses a danger to marine life and coastal birds.
