Woman rescued from Barrow slag bank

At around 6:15am today, Friday 27 April firefighters were called to assist a woman who had slipped down the side of an embankment, at Slag Bank on Ormsgill Lane in Barrow-in-Furness.

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Crews used specialist climbing equipment to gain access to where the woman was.

“The embankment was 20 metres deep and the woman was stranded halfway down.

“Firefighters helped the woman down to the base of the steep incline and handed her over to the care of waiting paramedics.

“Fire crews were in attendance for around an hour and 15 minutes.”
