[A] Carlisle man has pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage to a police vehicle.
District Judge Gerald Chalk sitting in the magistrates court in Rickergate was told that Nathan Andrew Jerram, 25, of Edge Hill Road, Harraby told police “he had been a drunken idiot”.
The judge was a told in the early hours of April 15 the defendant was drunk and was looking for a loose brick in The Crescent, he found one and threw it against the windscreen of a marked police van smashing the windscreen.
Officers witnessed the incident as Jerram ran away, he was caught in the Halston Hotel car park on Warwick Road and arrested.
The judge was told by defence lawyer Anthony Wilson that Jerram had spilt from his partner and was “at a low ebb” and went about things the wrong way, he understands that the damage was aggravated as it was caused to an emergency vehicle which was de-commissioned for some time.
Jerram was placed on a Community order to complete 40-hours of unpaid work in the community, he has to pay Cumbria Constabulary £1,008, 09 in compensation.
