[C]arus Green golf club’s Golf Manager, Margaret Bebington, is celebrating following an impressive win at the Moulie Moore County Vets Best Nett Trophy championship, which took place at Kendal golf course last week. In a field of 52 ladies, Margaret, who plays off a handicap of just nine, shot a gross score of 76 to tie for first place position for the best gross score, despite suffering a double-bogey on the 18th hole.
Although she was beaten on a card play-off for the Gross Trophy by Brenda Ewbank from Appleby golf club, Margaret was delighted to win the Nett Trophy by four shots, ahead of Kendal golf club’s Sheena McDonald. With conditions fine, it was a good day for Carus’s ladies all-round, with several bronze players earning a place in the county Vets team.
“I am completely thrilled by my win,” said Margaret, who has played golf for 10 years and was delighted to hit a single-figure handicap earlier this month. “It was a really tough field so to be so close to taking the Gross Trophy and then taking the Nett Trophy, was a tremendous honour. In addition, hitting my single-figure handicap this month has been a double-whammy and something I have been working towards for many years. It was 10.4 prior to the Moulie Moore win; it’s the cherry on the cake!”
It’s been a month of celebrations for Margaret, who also won the Rotary Club of St Helens Golf Day at Royal Birkdale the week prior to winning the Moulie Moore Trophy. Together with team, Carus Director, Maurice Cotter, Club Champion, Mike Turner and Course Manager, Chris Hodgkinson, Margaret’s birdie on the 18th saw the team win by just one stroke! In addition, whilst playing the course at Kingsbarns in Scotland at the beginning of the month, Margaret’s partner, Graham Shepherd, popped the question, with the golfing-mad duo set to wed in November at Carus Green!
“It’s certainly been an April to remember!” said Margaret.
