WATCH: Bomb disposal blow up WWII shell in Carlisle park

[A]n army bomb disposal team has carried out a controlled explosion in Rickerby Park after a man dug up a WWII mortar shell.

Cumbria Police were called at 2:56pm today.

The WWII Mk 2 high explosive mortar shell was dug up by Stuart Whelan after he detected it with his metal detector.

An EOD team was dispatched to the park from the Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire.
