[D]etectives in Carlisle would like to speak to a potential witness who gave a lift to a woman from the city centre to the Carlisle Castle area late on Friday 11th May.
On the evening of 11th May a women, aged in her 30s, was the victim of serious sexual assault in the city centre area.
It is believed that following the incident the woman stopped a vehicle that was passing by and asked the driver to give her a lift to the Carlisle Castle area.
Police would like to speak to the driver as a potential witness.
The incident was reported to Cumbria Police on 14th May.
Detective Chief Inspector Helen Harkins, North Cumbria CID, said; “We would urgently like to speak to the driver of a vehicle that gave the victim in this incident a lift to the Carlisle Castle area.
“If you are that driver, please contact us as your information could be vital to our investigation.
“Numerous enquiries are ongoing at this time to ascertain the circumstances of Friday night’s incident and who was involved.”
