[T]he Lake District Calvert Trust is calling for support from the local community to secure their last few places for the Great North Run 2018. With the deadline for entrants fast approaching, there is no time like the present to sign up for the UK’s most famous half marathon in Newcastle on 9th September.
The Great North Run plays host to over 57,000 participants every year.
With famous faces such as Sting, Sir Bobby Robson, Mo Farah and Paula Radcliffe previously starting the event, there is a good chance of spotting a familiar face whilst clocking up the miles. Whether you are chasing Mo Farah’s 2014 time of 1 hour or simply aiming on completing the course with a smile, by joining Team Calvert you have the opportunity to accomplish this challenging yet rewarding feat whilst raising vital funds to help change the lives of people living with disabilities.
Great North Run finisher, Liz Ellis says: “I have so many happy memories from doing the Great North Run. The atmosphere is electric from start to finish with all the participants raising money for amazing causes and the route lined with thousands of friendly cheering supporters. Crossing the Tyne Bridge with the Red Arrows overhead is a feeling that I’ll never forget, and the views on the final stretch down to the coast at South Shields are out of this world. Such a fantastic event and an unforgettable experience!”
Based on the shores of Lake Bassenthwaite, the Lake District Calvert Trust is a residential outdoor centre with over 40 years of experience in delivering challenging outdoor adventure holidays for people with disabilities. They offer exciting residential breaks for schools, groups, families and individuals with their friends and carers, which are accessible to people of all ages including those with the most complex needs for which most outdoor centres cannot cater.
