A student from Barrow Sixth Form College has been accepted by a prestigious ballet school as she pursues her passion for dance.

Alice Worrall, 17, will study and train at Ballet West in Argyll after completing her A Levels at Furness College’s Rating Lane campus.

The talented dancer has secured one of only 16 sought-after places to study towards a BA (Hons) degree in Dance over three years.

Alice said: “I started doing ballet at nine years old and I’ve wanted to be a dancer ever since.

“I auditioned at several places across the UK, and was thrilled to be offered a place at Ballet West.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to improve my technique and experience a range of different dance styles, while doing ballet and pointe every day.

“Ballet West has its own touring company, so my ambition is to travel with them and perform all over the world.”

The choice to study at Barrow Sixth Form College was an easy one for Alice, as the college is the only one in South Cumbria to offer an A Level in Dance.

She said: “Studying at Barrow Sixth Form allows you to find your own path, while developing your independence and confidence.

“My tutor, Christine, has really supported me through my auditions and interviews.”

Dance tutor Christine Jamieson praised Alice’s commitment to her course and expressed high hopes for her future.

Christine said: “Alice is an outstanding dancer and her technique is beautiful. As well as having natural talent, Alice is very dedicated and hard-working.

“She always gives 100 per cent and pushes herself to do that bit better. She’ll go far in her career and I’m very proud of her.”

Alice has attended Maria Fischer’s School of Dancing for eight years and is currently preparing for her Royal Academy of Dance advanced foundation exam and training at Grade 8.

By pursuing a career in dance, Alice will follow in the footsteps of her sister Emily, who studied a Foundation Degree at Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) and now trains in contemporary dance at Dance City in Newcastle after gaining an A Level in Dance at Barrow Sixth Form College.
