[D]etectives in Carlisle are appealing for anyone who may have seen or spoken to a victim of a serious sexual assault in Carlisle.
Late on Friday 11th May a woman in her 30s was a victim of a serious sexual assault in the city centre area.
Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen or spoken to her between 10pm and 11.45pm.
The victim is described as being in her 30s, of slim build and was wearing skinny jeans with a red top or pink hoody, she may have had the hoody tied around her waist. She has brown hair which was tied back in a plait and has a Merseyside accent.
Officers believe that she may have attempted to flag vehicles down in the areas off Botchergate towards Warwick Road.
This afternoon, Cumbria Police cordoned off part of Portland Square in the city centre, PCSO’s are guarding the entrances to the garden and street and the garden area is being searched by officers and police dogs.
Detective Chief Inspector Helen Harkins, North Cumbria Crime and Safeguarding Team, said: “We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen or spoken with the victim of this serious incident.
“Were you out last Friday night and remember seeing or speaking to a lone female matching the description given?
“We know that she spoke to several people in the vicinity of Botchergate and Warwick Road, if she spoke to you please get in touch.
“Any information, no matter how insignificant you may deem it, could be crucial to our enquiries.”
