Firefighters tackle M6 lorry blaze

[A]t 1:29am today, Wednesday 23 May firefighters were called to a report of a lorry fire on the M6 southbound between junctions 40 and 39.

Lane one of the motorway was closed by emergency services to enable crews to tackle the fire.

A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two crew members in breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet and three compressed air foam systems to put out the blaze before damping the vehicle down.

“They were at the scene for around two hours.”

Two lanes remain closed this morning due to recovery work.
