Firefighters tackling large blaze in Dearham

[A]t 6:14pm today, Wednesday 23 May firefighters were called to a large building fire on Crosshow Road, Dearham, near Maryport.

A crew from Maryport were initially dispatched to the scene and on arrival they discovered the fire involved two large barns, each measuring approximately 50 metres by 100 metres.

The fire had also spread to an adjoining joiner’s workshop.

A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “Due to the scale of the fire, and low water pressure in the area, and additional six pumps were dispatched to the scene, along with an aerial platform, water bowser and Joint Incident Command Unit.

“The team are using hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze and the fire is believed to be under control.

“There are no reports of any injures at the current time.

“Police are also in attendance at the scene and road closures are in place while the team deal with the incident.”
