[A] local personal trainer who held free outdoor exercise classes over the bank holiday weekend says their popularity means he’s looking at making them a permanent fixture during the summer.
Josh Dowson from Penrith-based Sculpt Personal Training hosted two HIIT – high intensity interval training – exercise classes at the iconic setting of the north lawn at Lowther Castle. Over 40 people attended the Saturday and Monday morning sessions which were held in glorious sunshine.
The classes were suitable for newcomers and seasoned fitness fans, using bodyweight exercises such as burpees, squat jumps and lunges to burn calories and strengthen muscles.
The positive feedback from participants has led Dowson to look at expanding the trial and hold regular Saturday morning classes at Lowther Castle during the summer.
Josh Dowson said: “I was overwhelmed by just how many people turned up, especially during a bank holiday weekend. It was a mix of familiar and new faces so we had a simple range of exercises suitable for all abilities – and it proved really popular with everyone.
“The location on the lawn at Lowther is perfect, the towering backdrop of the castle really spurred people into action. I’m looking at the option of holding regular Saturday morning group sessions now as the feedback was really positive and the HIIT classes are a great way to burn off calories and get the heart pumping at the end of a tough working week.”
