Whitehaven swimming pool flasher sentenced by judge

James Watson

[A] MAN convicted of exposing his erect penis to three young children in a Whitehaven swimming pool changing room has been sentenced by a judge.

Carlisle Crown Court heard how 33-year-old James William Watson’s lewd act was seen by a fuming father who went to Copeland Pool with the pre-teen youngsters on September 24 last year.

Watson was said to have flashed his genitalia in front of the children “for all the world to see” by deliberately holding open a towel he had previously clutched around him. The father was said to have been left “angry” by criminal conduct he reported after confronting the culprit.

Watson, of Fleswick Avenue, Whitehaven, denied committing any offence. But he was convicted of exposure, unanimously, by jurors following a trial.

He was sentenced today (MON), when Judge James Adkin imposed a two-year community order after reading a detailed background report. Watson must complete a rehabilitation activity requirement and a sex offenders’ treatment course.

Watson must also sign the sex offenders’ register and abide by the strict terms of a sexual harm prevention order, both for five years.
