[A] CAREER Carlisle criminal has been jailed for racially abusing a store detective as he was challenged for stealing vodka.
Steven Robson, 54, was tackled at the city’s M&S Kingstown shop while in the process of shoplifting. He threw punches and aimed kicks during a melee.
And, as store detective Reza Dadpour intervened, on the afternoon of September 25 last year, Robson then racially abused him.
He was sentenced today (THURS) having pleaded guilty to racially aggravated public order, theft of the vodka and another shoplifting offence. Robson, of Yewdale Road, Carlisle, had also admitted vehicle interference and two other shop thefts.
Carlisle Crown Court heard he had 125 offences on a criminal record which had accumulated during a “40-year career”.
He was jailed for 12 months by Judge Peter Hughes QC, who said of the store detective: “He was somebody doing his job to the best of his ability.
“You abused him in very unpleasant terms in public.”
