[A]fter six months in care at Oak Tree Animals’ Charity, Bear a fabulous 2 year old German Shepherd has finally found his forever home.
Bear came into Oak Tree when his owner was no longer able to care for him. A fabulous big softie with a typically long and dense German Shepherd coat, he had poor muscle tone and a very matted coat. These matts were very thick and full of grease, dirt and dead skin cells giving Bear a very strong aroma. Bear also had limited training and, being full of natural enthusiasm, was a fabulous, fluffy handful!
After a professional groom, rehabilitation to improve his muscle tone and significant training, Oak Tree staff began the quest for a new home. His size and exuberance was always going to be the challenge.
Rachel Smith, Bear’s case worker, explained “Bear needed an experienced owner who could continue his training, who also did not mind brushing his coat regularly to keep him from matting. Bear’s initial mantra was ‘Why go around something when you could go through it’ but with training and patience he has learnt calmness and to think first. He has a real desire to learn and please and even though his start in life was not ideal, he has always been a loveable character full of fun and play. All here at OTAC wish him and his new family well and we all look forward to hearing updates on Bear’s latest adventures.
