[O]ne of Carus Green golf club’s elite junior players has made a superb first impression during her international debut this month.
Kirkbie Kendal schoolgirl, Caitlin Whitehead, 15, who now plays off a handicap of +2, made her first ever European appearance on behalf of England Golf, at the U18 German Girls Open Championships at St Leon-Rot golf club, tying for eighth place in a highly competitive field of more than 100. One of the youngest competitors in the tournament, Caitlin completed rounds of 73, 71 and 68, finishing six under par and just seven places behind Swedish winner, Ingrid Lindblad.
Caitlin, who started playing golf at the age of four, has had a tremendous start to the season. On 10th June, she won the Harper Salver 2018 tournament with a superb gross score of 144 over 36 holes at Bath golf club in the West of England Amateur Open Ladies Championship. Caitlin finished the tournament four strokes under par and was not phased following an hour’s delay due to fog. She also came fourth in the U18 Scottish Open Championship in April and finished third in the Fairhaven Trophy in May.
“We are so delighted by Caitlin’s continuing progress this year and in particular, her international debut”, said Mum, Donna Whitehead.
“We are extremely proud of Caitlin’s on-going efforts and current form; her game really is going from strength to strength and everyone at Carus Green is enjoying watching her develop into an enormously polished player,” said Carus Green Golf Centre Director, Lee Edwards. “We are here to support Caitlin as she continues to grow, so are very pleased that our all-weather facilities are helping her in achieving such success.”
